A Toast to David Robertson Ross - Charlie McAulay Robertson 2010
Scotland has had many heroes, from days away back then,
But never did we have a chance, to learn anything of them.
We were never taught about them, when we were at our schools,
Our history it was kept from us, they treated us like fools.
But then came along this man, who was born in East Kilbride,
And all around this country, on his motorbike did ride.
He found out about the good guys, the villains, and the crooks,
And then put pen to paper, and he wrote some historic books.
He wrote about our country, the Wallace and the Bruce,
Who fought against the English might and never made a truce.
He travelled this World over, spreading the words of Scotland's story,
Talking of her Sons and Daughters, who fought for all her glory.
Of our many ancestors, who from this country had to flee,
And of the fight that still goes on, to set our country free.
He made so many good friends, wherever he did go,
And entered the hearts of those, where Scottish blood does flow.
But sadly, on the second of January, Two Thousand and Ten.
Scotland lost one of her sons, the most patriotic of men.
She lost a man, whose works we will always boast.
So here’s to David Robertson Ross, please raise your glass, and toast.
Rest in peace Big Davey, in our memories you will remain,
And our land called Scotland, will never be the same.
Ye stood before this flag the white Saltire of St Andrew,
It represents the soil from which ye sprang, and to where ye have returned.
It represents Scotland. As it was. As it is. As it always will be.
David Robertson Ross RIP
