MELISSA SPEAR - IN REMEMBRANCE

Scotland the brave we call her, and rightly so we do,
Her reputation declares her worth, her history proves it true,

Heroes made and buried brought glory to her name,
Some, too late recognised, gave themselves her life to save.

Through blood and tears and help on high they ripped her from their grasp,
Finally united, she’d found her strength at last,

Freedom rang, though time was brief, together they did stand,
Too soon did greed and false hope bring darkness to the land

A land, once one, is now joined though kept her maiden name,
She’s sacrificed her one true love to ease suffering and pain,

A helping hand she sought, too late to see the truth,
Her benefactor, whose love waxed cold,  sought only to steal her youth.

Her voice and plaid were taken, replaced in part with fear,
But the battle cries, once silenced, still sound within her ear,

Her children spread both near and far may always be apart,
But bonds that the eye can’t see still hold them to her heart.

The fire within still lashes out,  her passion never fades,
And in her children too,  from the cradle to the grave,

They may not see her face but they hear her gently call,
Even now she seeks the one who holds her heart in thrall.

Indifference and injustice try to break her spirit still,
Although she pays her penance she doesn’t forfeit her will,

One day she’ll find strength again and see the time is right,
To fight for independence she’ll need knowledge, faith and might.

With her children gathered round they’ll fight to right the wrong,
What draws them ever to her is simply this “THE BLOOD IS STRONG!!”
