WALLACE CONNECTIONS: BALTIMORE USA

This statue of William Wallace stands in Druid Hill Park overlooking the Druid Hill Lake in Baltimore Maryland in America.

These photos were taken by Society convenor David R Ross and it stands at over 40 feet high!!

In 1893 William Wallace Spence, emigrant from Edinburgh, supremely successful Baltimore merchant and financier, city commissioner and philanthropist decided to commission the Royal Academy of Scotland artist D. W. Stevenson to improve on his already magnificent sculpture of Wallace on display at the Abbey Craig in Stirling and offered it to the people and the city of Baltimore.

Over 12,000 people gathered to witness the unveiling, appropriately on St Andrews Day. The Mayor and the city council were present alongside the British consul.
